Founded in 1986, the Jordan Education Foundation, Inc. (JEF) is a 501c3 non-profit public charity that cultivates lasting partnerships with businesses and individuals to enhance the quality of education for students in Jordan School District. The Foundation is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, comprised of business and community leaders, parents, district administrators and a full-time Executive Director.

100% of all donations go to support programs and activities that benefit teachers and students in Jordan School District.  No administrative costs are taken from private contributions.

Interesting facts about the Jordan Education Foundation:

  • We provide resources to enhance innovative education programs that aren’t funded   through normal public education channels.
  • We assist teachers and students by awarding mini-grants of up to $500 each. This year 2009-2010 JEF awarded over $65,000 to 151 teachers.
  • We serve over 48,000 students who attend 51 schools in the rapidly growing cities of Bluffdale, Copperton, Herriman, Riverton, South Jordan & West Jordan.
  • We provide low-income students basic health care such as glasses, hearing aids, dental work and prescription medication.
  • We award a scholarship of $2,000 to a senior from each high school  who has overcome severe obstacles and/or has turned their academic world around and would otherwise not be able to attend an institution of higher education.
  • We fund Arts for Education, a program that enhances learning by teaching music, dance, drama, visual and media arts for students, kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • We recognize our teachers by funding Outstanding Educator and Special Educator Awards. Recipients receive a $1000 cash award.
  •  We encourage ethnic students to become teachers through a partnership with SLCC. SLCC provides the tuition waivers and we provide funding for books and fees.

Why we seek private funding:

  • Utah ranks last in the nation in the number of public dollars available to educate each student.
  • The Jordan District's commercial tax base is smaller than most neighboring school districts.
  • Class sizes in Jordan District are larger than the state average and much larger than the national average.

Our Annual Just for Kids Breakfast was held on February 24th at The Gathering Place at Gardner Village.  With the help of small and large donations, JEF raised over $15,000.00 that morning.
